We Live in Time: A Love Story That Hurts in the Best Way

Warning: this article contains movie spoilers!!

Okay, quick confession before I delve into this review: I might be a tiny bit biased because I absolutely adore Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. Honestly, I could probably watch them recite the terms and conditions and still give them a standing ovation. So, going into We Live in Time, my expectations were very high, and spoiler alert: I was not disappointed.

From the moment the movie started, I was hooked. I mean, how could I not be? Florence and Andrew have this raw, magnetic energy that pulls you into their world so completely, it’s like you’re living every moment of their love story right alongside them. Their performances are so pure, so vulnerable, that I couldn’t bring myself to pause the movie, not even for a Tiktok scroll break (and if you know me and my attention span, you know that’s saying something).

The way the story unfolds, jumping back and forth between the highs of their romance and the heartbreaking reality they’re facing feels so real. One minute, you’re laughing at their quirky, awkward meet-cute, and the next, you’re holding back tears as life throws them curveballs they don’t deserve. It’s like someone bottled up the bittersweetness of love and poured it onto the screen. And let’s talk about their chemistry. Oh my gosh, the CHEMISTRY. Florence plays Almut with this mix of strength and softness that makes her impossible not to root for, while Andrew brings this quiet intensity to Tobias that just breaks your heart. Together, they’re a perfect match. You believe every glance, every smile, every fight, they genuinely make you feel it all. But it’s not just about the love story. The movie digs deep into themes like ambition, loss, grief, death and how fleeting time really is. It doesn’t sugarcoat anything, which makes the story hit even harder. The non-linear storytelling might be tricky for some, but honestly, I think it mirrors the messiness of life in such a beautiful way.

By the time the credits rolled, I was an emotional wreck, but in the best possible way. We Live in Time isn’t just a movie; it’s an experience, one that stays with you long after you’ve watched it. So, if you’re in the mood for something that will make you laugh, cry, and reflect on the fragility of love and life, trust me, this is the one.

My rating? 8.7/10, would watch again (but maybe with tissues and a Tiktok break next time).

Have you watched the movie ? What did you think of it ?
